Kristin Matteson, Ph.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist PSY 14416
Welcome
I am a clinical psychologist practicing in North County San Diego for over 28 years. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients as they progress from places of distress or pain to states in which they feel better and more effective in managing their lives. The therapeutic relationship is central to my work with clients. I believe that by developing a strong therapeutic connection a safe and accepting space is created, allowing clients to connect with areas of emotional pain, learn to observe themselves openly and begin relating to their pain with stronger internal resources to start the healing process.
Psychotherapy has developed several modalities to address and treat psychological struggles. After assessing a client's history and the issues they face, I apply techniques from Cognitive Behavioral, Relational, Self-Psychology, and EMDR Therapy approaches that best fit the needs of the individual. I work to provide tools and practical skills, then work on current and deeper issues. It is a privilege to travel down this path with each client and launch a journey that involves working together to help them heal, grow, and enhance their quality of life. In addition to empirically supported psychological techniques as essential components of quality psychotherapy, I believe trust, honesty, openness and courage are similarly vital to the success of our work together. Feel free to read more about my practice, training, and specialties. Please do not hesitate to call with any questions you might have or to schedule an appointment.
